The simple use of visited links and javascript can help you find out the browsing history of your users. Taken further you can extrapolate the gender of the user based on each sites gender ration.

Version control is not only important for your code, but it is important for your designs. How many designers have to attach version numbers to their Photoshop or Illustrator files? Today there are hosted solutions so you do not have to go to the trouble of setting up your own server. Hosts such as Drteamhost even provide subversion as part of their hosting plan.
